Pavlov Media and Campus Crest Communities Launch First Tesseractiv™ Content Delivery Network in Texas
New technology delivers web content at speeds unmatched in student housing communities in the state
Champaign, IL (May 4, 2012) – Pavlov Media, one of the nation’s largest private providers of broadband services to multifamily real estate owners, today announced that it has partnered with Campus Crest Communities, a leading developer, builder, owner and manager of high-quality, purpose-built student housing under The Grove® brand, for the joint launch of an industry-leading Internet service called Tesseractiv™ Content Delivery Network. The beta for this program is at Campus Crest’s student housing community in Waco, Texas.
Pavlov Media’s new Tesseractiv™ technology hosts the Web’s most popular content and delivers it to end users at transport speeds up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps). As a part of Campus Crest’s ongoing commitment to revolutionize student living coast to coast it decided to partner with Pavlov Media on its Tesseractiv™ platform as a way to provide its residents with market-leading Internet performance. Residents at The Grove at Waco now enjoy significantly improved streaming video content, university coursework and other entertainment services.
“We are always looking for new, cost effective ways to drive value and quality of life for our residents so when we discussed Pavlov Media’s Tesseractiv™ technology it was a natural fit. We believe this system will provide our residents with industry leading Internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps per second or a gig,” said Rob Dann, executive vice president of Campus Crest Communities and president of Campus Crest Real Estate Management. “We pride ourselves on providing living environments for our residents that are radically different at a great value and at the same time are places where we provide the complete student experience. This inaugural service takes this to a new level meeting the needs of today’s college students and having a fast, reliable Internet connection which is a must in today’s high-speed digital world.”
“Campus Crest is a recognized industry leader when it comes to providing Internet services for their residents and Tesseractiv™ will give The Grove Waco a technological advantage over neighboring student housing communities," said Mark Scifres, CEO of Pavlov Media. “We are pleased to roll out Tesseractiv™ in Texas and continue to deploy Tesseractiv™ systems on our national backbone in key strategic markets across the United States with Campus Crest.”
Pavlov Media has spent years developing Tesseractiv™ technology, which helps property owners make more efficient use of their bandwidth, improve Internet speeds and cut costs. The technology gets its name from the combination of the words “interactive” and “Tesseract,” a four dimensional mathematical model. The word “Tesseract” is used in the popular novel A Wrinkle in Time. Author Madeleine L'Engle uses the concept of a “tesseract” to describe traveling between stars faster than the speed of light.

PAVLOV MEDIA LAUNCHES TESSERACTIV™ CONTENT DELIVERY NETWORK
New technology allows content at multi-Gigabit speeds
Pavlov Media has launched its Tesseractiv™ Content Delivery Network that enables Gigabit speeds for the Champaign/Urbana, Illinois market. The company is preparing similar rollouts in New York, Phoenix, Atlanta, Indianapolis and other markets. Those rollouts allow Tesseractiv™ to be deployed across the entire state for each market listed. This new Pavlov Media-developed technology enables residents at apartment communities connected to its network to enjoy significantly improved web video streaming, University coursework and other entertainment services.
Pavlov Media has spent years developing solutions to boost residential Internet to multi-Gigabit speeds. “Our demand-driven Tesseractiv™ Content Network (TCN) will allow Pavlov Media the opportunity to exceed residential expectations and help manage the explosion of online content,” said Mark Scifres, CEO of Pavlov Media. “We have completed the development of our patent-pending technology that lets us surpass the traditional telco’s and cable companies and put Internet capability in the hands of our customers that no other provider can top.”
”During my testing of the product I found that I was receiving desirable content significantly faster,” said Matt Williamson, Director of Information and Technology for The Scion Group.
Most residential Internet speeds are measured in Mbps so a one Mbps speed means approximately one million bits per second. A one Gigabit download speed (1 Gbps) means 1,000 times the speed of 1 Mbps. For example, a ten minute video that downloads in 12 minutes at 1 Mbps could download in approximately six seconds via TCN.
Pavlov Media will showcase this technology at the NAA Student Housing Association Exposition in Las Vegas February 29 through March 2.

PAVLOV MEDIA’S NEW PRODUCT HELPS PROPERTY MANAGERS DO THEIR JOBS
"Registration wizard" makes it simple to complete broadband signup.
Pavlov Media's new Registration Wizard greatly simplifies the process for residents wanting to sign up for Internet service in multi-dwelling units (MDU's) served by Pavlov Media. This includes properties where residents either use Internet directly from Pavlov Media or properties that use Pavlov Media as the underlying provider.
Property managers know that registration for initial service can produce a lot of questions from residents. Wizard takes the process, simplifies it and reduces the number of calls from residents.
"We have already field-tested Wizard and analysis shows it makes a substantial reduction in calls from residents," Mike Scifres, CEO of Pavlov Media said. "Pavlov Media listened to customer feedback, and then designed this in-house to help improve service for residents, property managers and bulk property managers."
Registration Wizard is filled out in less than 60 seconds and then Internet service starts immediately. No waiting. Fill out the form, hit submit and the broadband service is activated. Wizard improves communications between residents and property managers. And Wizard improves network security by improving the property manager's understanding of data use, which makes the apartment network safer for everyone.
Wizard is adjustable from property to property, depending on the services available at individual properties. It is integrated into a live help chat and includes an integrated knowledge base which has answers to many common questions related to registering for services.

NEW PAVLOV-DESIGNED EQUIPMENT INCREASES ABILITY TO REMOTELY CONTROL VIDEO
Equipment helps cable tv operators, others to reduce service time and repair costs
Pavlov Media announces it has finished design and manufacturing has begun manufacturing of its Remote Kontrol, which lets video operators control their video head-end units remotely. The Remote Kontrol has been tested in the field and is ready for deployment. The Remote Kontrol is a remote infrared controller that allows video operators like cable companies, apartment building owners, hospitals and others to manage the video on their system.
The Remote Kontrol allows the operator to control each receiver in the head end system as if that person were standing in front of it with a remote control. Pavlov Media designed the equipment in Champaign, Illinois and it is made in the United States.
“We believe this is a game-changer, in terms of how it helps reduce support and response time to basic video receiver issues,” said Mike Scifres, CEO of Pavlov Media. “Before Remote Kontrol, anytime a channel went out, someone had to call it in and a technician was dispatched. Not now. Remote Kontrol lets the operator make a simple, easy switch, all done remotely.”

City of Champaign, the home of University of Illinois, gets state-of-the art outdoor Wi-Fi network just in time for back to school
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – September 5, 2007 – GO Networks, an innovative leader in carrier-class outdoor Wi-Fi solutions and a subsidiary of NextWave Wireless Inc., (NASDAQ: WAVE), today announced the launch of a downtown Champaign, IL Wi-Fi network that provides free wireless internet access to downtown Champaign outdoor cafes and the historic West Side Park.
While larger cities are still in the planning and implementation phases of adopting Wi-Fi technology within their communities, GO Networks and Pavlov Media have made it a reality for the City of Champaign. GO Networks has implemented the advanced Wi-Fi technology that is at the heart of the network, and Pavlov Media provides the network’s operational services and bandwidth. Pavlov’s triple-play capabilities - delivery of voice, video and data over a common infrastructure – means that the City of Champaign’s network can grow as new applications of wireless broadband are implemented.
"Launching a Wi-Fi network downtown has been a great boost to our community, putting us on par with larger cities’ broadband wireless offerings. The positive response from our community has reaffirmed our choice of working with GO Networks and Pavlov Media," said T.J. Blakeman, Champaign’s city planner. "We believe that the partnership between these two companies and our city is a testament to the quality of high-tech businesses we are able to attract."
Using existing street lights and traffic poles as mounting assets, the City of Champaign’s Wi-Fi network is powered by GO Networks’ innovative xRFTM adaptive beamforming smart antenna technology and is serviced by Pavlov Media. Computers with Wi-Fi capabilities can now get free broadband access to the Internet outdoors throughout the downtown area. In addition, with GO Networks’ xRF smart antenna technology, Pavlov Media is able to provide superior Wi-Fi performance and coverage while significantly reducing the number Wi-Fi devices required for the area.
"GO Networks is committed to developing advanced solutions, purpose-built for maximizing outdoor Wi-Fi performance and superior economics for our customers," said Oz Leave, president and CEO of GO Networks. "We are excited to work with our partners, the City of Champaign and Pavlov Media, to make broadband wireless access – anywhere, anytime -- a reality for the entire downtown community."
The new network was completed prior to the return of nearly 40,000 University of Illinois students following summer break.
"This new wireless network is made possible both by the superior technology of GO Networks and by the vision of the leaders of the City of Champaign," said Mark Scifres, CEO, Pavlov Media. "We believe that this network is a model for Wi-Fi network implementation in any municipality, and are particularly proud that the new network will benefit the community of Champaign, our home town and corporate headquarters."

Downtown wireless network goes online
Saturday August 11, 2007
By Greg Kline
A new, free downtown wireless system in Champaign, connected to the Internet, was officially up and running Friday.
Champaign-based Pavlov Media, which is providing the system as a community service with Go Networks and the city of Champaign, has been testing the network, the sign-on Web site and other details most of this week.
Crews from the city, the California-based wireless equipment provider Go Networks, and Pavlov began installing the wireless access points, or nodes, on city light and traffic light poles in the downtown area Aug. 2.
To use the system, you need a wireless laptop or other mobile device capable of making a standard Wi-Fi connection.
Once connected, you open your Web browser, which takes you to a sign-in page. You have to provide your name, address, an e-mail address and phone number, which Pavlov collects for legal liability purposes, under the federal Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, among other things.
Dorothy Kallmayer, Pavlov's business development manager, said the information is stored in a database. But Pavlov doesn't use it except in the case of legal action.
"That information is not sold," she said. "We are not in that business."
You end up at a page thanking you for registering, with links to community-oriented Web sites like the city's, the University of Illinois' and the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District's.
Once connected, the system functions like an unfettered wireless Internet access point at any number of coffee shops, libraries and other public places.
Users can be connected to the system for up to three hours before having to go through the sign-on process again. You have to go through the process each time you sign on, the system doesn't remember you.
The wireless access points have been placed at 10 locations downtown in an area roughly bounded by State Street, Church and Main streets, Walnut Street and University Avenue, including West Side Park. The nodes work together to create a wireless "mesh" network that basically covers the whole downtown.
The Champaign City Council cleared the way for the project in June by approving an agreement to allow the wireless access points to be placed on traffic signal and light poles. The city allowed the installations at no charge as long as the service remains free, which is Pavlov's intention.
Go Network's Yaniv Sazman said the wireless nodes have been tested with a range as far as 13 miles in unobstructed terrain. In town, they will broadcast a signal for about a half mile, he said.
Coverage depends on buildings, leafy trees and other obstructions between a user and a node. The system is mostly for outdoors, although a signal is obtainable in buildings with enough windows and near a node or nodes.
Pavlov, headquartered in Church Street Square downtown, provides voice and data communications and digital video entertainment services for apartment communities and other, generally "bulk," customers in 29 states. The company employs 86 people and operates a 24-hour call center.
Pavlov has a lot of customers in the Champaign-Urbana area but isn't well-known locally in general. Company officials hope the wireless system heightens its profile, and also see the system as a community asset that could draw even more people downtown.

Wi-Fi coming to downtown Champaign
Friday August 3, 2007
By Greg Kline
By next week, downtown Champaign should be covered in an invisible wireless net making free Internet access available to almost anyone with a wireless laptop and other mobile devices using the common Wi-Fi standard.
Employees from Champaign-based Pavlov Media, which is installing the system as a community gift and publicity tool; Go Networks, the wireless equipment provider; and the city of Champaign began deploying the necessary hardware Thursday morning.
The project will place wireless access points, or nodes, on 10 locations downtown in an area bounded by State Street, Church and Main streets, Walnut Street and University Avenue.
The Champaign City Council cleared the way for the project in June by approving an agreement to allow the wireless access points to be placed on traffic signal and light poles.
Since then, city officials have been reviewing the system as Pavlov has settled on the equipment it will use, said T.J. Blakeman, the Champaign city planner who has worked on the project. The city is helping with the installation, particularly connecting the nodes to power.
"They'll be hard-wired into the lights," Blakeman said.
The city is allowing the installations at no charge as long as the service remains free, which is Pavlov's intention.
Go Networks, a national mobile high-speed wireless provider that's a division of NextWave Wireless, became aware of the project from a story on the Web and quickly pitched its technology to Pavlov.
"This is gonna be one of my reference networks," said Kevin Soss, the Midwest sales representative for the company, based in Mountain View, Calif.
"We're real excited about the partnership," said Dorothy Kallmayer, Pavlov's business development manager.
Go Network's Yaniv Sazman said the wireless nodes have been tested with a range as far as 13 miles in unobstructed terrain. In town, they will broadcast a signal for about a half mile, he said.
"This one can pretty much cover the whole park," Soss said, standing near a light pole at Church and State streets across from West Side Park.
That coverage will depend to some extent on the number of trees between a user and a node, which can affect reception.
"Concrete, steel, especially sheet metal, it's not a good conductor of signals," said Soss, a 1973 University of Illinois graduate.
That will make the system largely an outdoor thing, although people in downtown buildings may be able to pick up a signal near windows.
The nodes work together to create a wireless "mesh" network that should basically cover the whole downtown, and even heal itself automatically if one node goes out, Soss said.
The wireless system should heighten its profile. Pavlov officials also see the system as a community asset that could draw even more people to Champaign's burgeoning downtown, Kallmayer said.
People should be able to use the system with any standard Wi-Fi-equipped, Web-capable laptop or mobile device. Users will need to provide a name, address and phone number to register.
Access will come in three-hour increments, Kallmayer said, after which someone using the system will have to sign on again.

City of Champaign News - Pavlov Media Proposes Free Downtown Wireless Network
Thursday, March 15th, 2007
Pavlov Media (formally Fusion Broadband) was founded in Champaign, IL and specializes in providing internet, phone and cable service primarily to residents in large apartment complexes in 27 states throughout the United States. Pavlov is headquartered on the first floor of Church Street Square at Church and Randolph Streets in Downtown Champaign.
Dorothy Kallmayer, Development Manager for Pavlov Media, has recently approached the Planning Department about donating and implementing a free wireless network for Downtown Champaign. City Staff is currently working with Pavlov to identify their specific needs for mounting of hardware on city light poles. The initial conversations indicate that approximately 5-10 units would be needed to provide reliable wireless service in the core of Downtown and West Side Park. Staff will continue to work toward a license agreement with hopes of having a network up and running in time for warmer weather and the start of the outdoor café season.
If you have any questions about this program please call T.J. Blakeman in the Planning Department at 403-8800.
